When Green Teacher magazine began publishing in Canada in 1991, we took steps to ensure participation from environmental and global educators across the continent. One of the first things we did was to establish a group of volunteer regional editors who help to promote the magazine and keep us informed of interesting happenings in their area.
Until recently, the vast majority of our readers, and all of our regional editors, have been located in Canada, up here in the true north strong and free, home of back bacon and Moosehead beer.
But the times appear to be a-changin'. During the past two years, the proportion of Green Teacher readers in the United States has grown from 10% to almost 52% of our readership, and a great many American educators are now contributing articles to the magazine. As a result we are now seeking regional editors from across the USA.
Briefly, there are three main tasks: 1) to ensure that educators who are doing exciting work in environmental or global education in you area are being encouraged to write for the magazine; 2) to let local teachers know that Green Teacher exists; and 3) to write an occasional article or news story.
We would like regional editors to stay with us for about 2-3 years, but we understand that all kinds of things can happen to make such a commitment difficult to fulfill. Our main interest is in having a group of active representatives. So if you become a regional editor and then later find you don't have the time for it, we will welcome your resignation. No hard feelings.
In Canada: British Columbia, Nunavut.
In the U.S.: Alaska, Arkansas, Northern California, Colorado,
Delaware, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine,
Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South

If you are interested and have the time to undertake this
volunteer position, please let us know by contacting our offices or sending e-mail to
. Let us know why you think you would be a good
regional editor and tell us about professional or other
organizations in which you are an active member. For instance,
you may have good contacts through active membership in your
state environmental education association; or perhaps you give
workshops for teachers in your area.
Many Green Teacher readers encourage colleagues to write for the magazine, and put out display copies and flyers at conferences. Please contact us to obtain these materials.
It's possible that we will have already appointed a regional editor from your area. If so, we'll keep your name on file for the event that there is an editor's position to fill in your region at a later date. In any case, thank you for your consideration.
